An extremely fine and rare French “pendule au negre, le petit jardinier”
Gilt and patinated bronze case representing on the right an American native gardener child climbing a ladder. The clock is set in the middle of a large square vase containing a small a tree. The jar is decorated with applied gilt bronze decoration with floreal motifs. On the left there are various garden tools. Gilt bronze base decorated with applied pierced, engraved friezes and, in the center, a beehive. The clock leans on six egg shaped feet.
White enamel dial with black Roman numerals for the hours, outer ring with black indexes for the minutes and black Arabic numerals for the quarters. Two holes of charge. Gilt bronze hands.
Movement with anchor escapement, silk suspention pendulum and hour and half hours striking. Eight days winding.
Signed on the dial “Dupas a Paris”.
